I recently read about Davis in Pulak Prasad's book - what I learned about investing from Darwin. This guy was really interesting. And I would recommend you to read that book if you haven't already. It's one of the best books on investing, ever! IMO
You may be too young to remember … SAFECO was an actual publicly-traded insurance company until it was acquired by Liberty Mutual. So SafeCo as a hypothetical company is kind of a bad choice …
Regarding the name, I take your point. Since the historical Safeco was absorbed by Liberty Mutual nearly two decades ago, perhaps it is time for a more 'boring' placeholder. Next time I’ll consider 'Ataraxia Insurance', a name that should appeal to any skeptic seeking tranquility in a volatile market.
